Travel Health Services

Pre travel consultation

This involves an assessment of the risks to health of the traveller. The main factors influencing health while travelling are; the destination, the purpose of the trip and the individual health needs of the traveller.

Travel Vaccinations

Vaccinations appropriate to all destinationsThe Naas Travel Health Clinic carries the complete range of Vaccines.

The most commonly occurring vaccine preventable diseases include hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and typhoid. Other vaccine preventable diseases are tetanus, polio, and yellow fever. (A current Yellow Fever certificate is a mandatory entry requirement for many countries in the tropics)

Each traveller’s requirements for vaccination are determined based on current information on disease prevalence for different geographical areas and the travellers planned activities. Backpackers and volunteer workers are undoubtedly more exposed to infection than package tourists and a full program of immunisations is essential.

It is advised that the traveller sees the Doctor 4-6 weeks before travelling, as the vaccines need time to boost the immunisation system. For most people an appointment should be made about 4 to 5 weeks prior to departure. If you're planning something a little more adventurous then 6 to 8 weeks may be more appropriate.

Malaria prevention

Malaria prevention prescriptionsMalaria is a parasitic infection transmitted to humans via mosquito bites. Use of insect repellent and mosquito nets are essential preventative measures. The Naas travel health clinic will provide a prescription for anti-malaria tablets appropriate to your trip.

Travel Prescription

A single travel prescription is issued for all the medications that you may require for your trip.

Post-Exposure Screening

Many tropical diseases present themselves weeks maybe months after the person has returned. The post-exposure screening is designed to detect the presence of such diseases. The Tropical Medical bureau also provides medical care to travellers who become unwell with a tropical illness after their return home.

Travel accessories

Insect repellents, mosquito nets and other items form an important part of your health care regime while you are abroad. These are available through the TMB on line travel shop www.tmb.ie.
